Event photography: Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology

EMERGENCY PHOTO SHOOT! Some people call me months in advance, others weeks in advance, but quite regularly I get calls that are with just a night's notice to even just an hour's notice. This was one of those times. MITT (one of my alma maters) had their students participating in Skills Manitoba and needed me to shoot the awards ceremony. They ended up with over 10 awards and swept 2 categories, way to go everyone!

Event photography: Canadian Museum for Human Rights: "Remembering the Rwandan genocide"

I'm not keen to admit my ignorance, they are many, but in the case of being previously mostly unaware of the Rwandan genocide I have to admit the truth. Although I was in my teens when it happened, old enough to remember, apparently international news wasn't important to me at that time. So, thankfully we have one of the most powerful tools in the country to inform us of massively important things like this, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
Today they put on an event "Remembering the Rwandan genocide" in order to mark its 22nd anniversary and I'm extremely thankful they did. They also held multiple events two years ago which I also covered for them (CMHR). I can still remember how much bigger my world became.

Normally when I go to shoot bands or other events I'm not able to really listen in or appreciate the event. However for this event I listened very closely. This year, three people spoke: One was a first person account of how they returned home to find their whole large family had been murdered, another was a story of escape and a third person gave an account of her father's experience, all revetting.

Huge thanks to the CMHR for creating this event, bringing together people to talk about it first hand and allowing for discussion.
